| County Board Considers Truancy Ordinance
The Perry County Board began discussing a unified truancy ordinance for the county, which has already passed in Pinckneyville and is currently placed on public display for consideration in Du Quoin."As it stands now, there is no mechanism for a truant person to be picked up by police and taken to school in a squad car," said Perry County State's Attorney David Stanton. "This ordinance will help us do that."According to Stanton, the school and court systems must go through a lengthy process while dealing with truant students that typically takes the majority of the school year to complete. At this time, the child must have missed at least 10 percent of the school year, or 18 days, before being reported to the Regional Superintendent. After that, the Superintendent must provide all interventionary tools he has to offer before reporting the truant to the State's Attorney for prosecution.
(AFX UK Focus) 2006-07-21 10:01 GMT: Ex-Brocade CEO, VP charged with fraud
SAN FRANCISCO (AFX) - The charges against two former executives of Brocade Communications Systems Inc. for alleged fraud are the strongest sign yet that a stock options probe involving at least 80 companies will probably widen in coming months, legal and accounting experts said. Brocade's former CEO, Gregory L. Reyes, 43, and Stephanie Jensen, 48, the company's former vice president of human resources, became the first two individuals to be criminally charged over allegedly improper accounting of stock options. The criminal complaints, and a corresponding civil lawsuit, on Thursday indicate corporate executives can expect plenty more scrutiny. "There's going to be lots of anguish going on until the regulators think they've finished their investigation," said Richard Dietrich, a professor at Ohio State University's Fisher College of Business.
City Council considers suspension of on-site storage pods
No new on-site San Antonio storage containers would be allowed in Springfield for six months if the Springfield City Council approves a resolution to study how the containers impact property values tonight. The six-month suspension would give the council a chance to consider new rules for keeping storage containers, on-site storage trailers and temporary storage units on private property in the city. .
